SAINTS CROSS COUNTRY START OCAA SEASON AT SENECA MEET

KING CITY, Ont. - The St. Clair College cross country team travelled Seneca College's King City campus on Friday to compete in their invitational meet. The Saints put in a solid effort with the women coming in third overall as a team while the men's team placed seventh.

Rookie Camryn Crawford (Kemptville, Ont.) led the women's squad with a fifth-place finish covering the six kilometre course in a time of 27:44 in a field of 35 participants. Third-year runner Melody Knight (Tecumseh, Ont./Tecumseh Vista) was tenth in 29:14 with freshman Justine Abbott (Wyoming, Ont.) crossing in 16th position in a time of 29:47. Kendra Bell (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) was 25th in 31:19 and Jillian Stratichuk (Belle River, Ont./St. Anne) was the final St. Clair runner in a time of 31:49 (28th place).

The men's race featured 66 competitors and St. Clair's top runner was second-year athlete Russell Niedre (Ottawa, Ont.) who finished 22nd in a time of 32:02. Rookie Wesley Hearn (Windsor, Ont./Sandwich) came in 26th (32:15) and was followed by fellow freshman Cameron Finch (Forest, Ont.) in 28th place with a time of 32:22 as did second-year runner Michael Horrobin (Wallaceburg, Ont.) who crossed in 29th. Nicholas Horrobin (Wallaceburg, Ont.) was 33rd in 32:49 and Noah Nicoletti (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) came across in the 40th spot in 33:50 to round out the Saints team over the eight kilometre course.

The St. Clair cross country team travel to London for their next competition at the Fanshawe College invitational meet on Sept. 30.
