Women's Soccer Bows to Royals in 2-1 Loss

The Lady Lions hit the road on Saturday to take on the Redeemer Royals in Ancaster. The girls came out slow to start the contest, playing on their heels and giving way to the Redeemer attack. Just 7 minutes into the game, the Lady Royals offense penetrated the Lambton defense to punch home the early tally and hand them the 1-0 lead. The pressure continued on the Lambton defense, with Redeemer creating multiple scoring chances but failing to capitalize on the slow start by the Lady Lions. Eventually Lambton found their footing and turned the tide, moving the ball efficiently down the pitch to create some scoring opportunites. After a few great saves by the Redeemer keeper, the Lady Lions caught a break. A Lambton corner kick resulted in a mad scramble in front of the Redeemer net. The loose ball found Bobbi Lisk who sent it into the back of the net, knotting the game at 1-1, with the score staying that way until the half.

Unfortunately for the Lady Lions, the second half started out much the same as the first. Early pressure from the Redeemer forwards caused the defense to slip, as the Lady Royals found the goal to put them up 2-1. From that point on Lambton took control of the game, maintaining the pressure in the Redeemer end and finding multiple scoring chances. The Redeemer keeper was able to wipe out a golden opportunity by the Lady Lions late in the game. A through ball led to a 2-on-0 breakaway, but miscommunication between the Lambton forwards gave just enough daylight for the Redeemer keeper to swat the ball away and keep the score at 2-1.

With the loss, the Lady Lions will look to cling on to their playoff hopes when they host the Conestoga Condors on Thursday. Good luck women!
