ALGONQUIN 55, ST. CLAIR 43

TORONTO - The St. Clair College women's basketball team ended their season with a 55-43 loss to Algonquin College (Ottawa) Friday afternoon in the consolation semi-final of the OCAA championship hosted by Seneca College in North York, Ont.

Due to injury, the Lady Saints took the floor without leading scorer Shannon Kennedy and could not generate enough offence throughout the game. However, St. Clair played hard and only trailed by a single point following the opening quarter (11-10) and again at halftime (25-24).

The third quarter provided Algonquin the separation it required and it outscored the Saints 16-9. Algonquin's lead grew in the fourth quarter and St. Clair was powerless to make the comeback.  The Saints only made two long balls in the game and those came late in the contest. But 25 turnovers proved to be St. Clair's undoing.

Aleah Marton (Amherstburg, Ont./General Amherst) and Nicole Tamm (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) each scored 10 points apiece to lead the Saints in scoring. Tamm earned Player of the Game honours for St. Clair who added seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

Algonquin's Jeylinh Bui (Toronto) scored a game-high 12 points in the win.

St. Clair also took home recognition with three players being named OCAA All-Stars at the championship banquet. Fourth-year guard Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) was named a West Region First-Team All-Star with teammate Torrie Handsor (Wallaceburg, Ont.) earning a spot on the Second-Team. Aleah Marton was named to the OCAA All-Rookie team for the Saints.
