Women’s Basketball Finish Regular Season Undefeated

Windsor, ON – For the fourth time in program history the St. Clair College Women's Basketball team (8-0) finished their regular season undefeated with a 90-74 win over Redeemer University College (Ancaster) at the SportsPlex Saturday evening.  Having already clinched home court advantage throughout the OCAA playoffs, the Saints now have their sights set on Wednesday night's matchup with 8th seeded Fanshawe College (London).  The two teams last met in the postseason when St. Clair hosted the OCAA Championship in 2020 with Fanshawe winning the crown and the Saints settling for the Silver Medal.  St. Clair will look to avenge that loss as the #2 rated team in the province and the #8 ranked squad in the country.

Redeemer was short benched but was game for the fight making six triples in the opening quarter and the Saints entered the second frame up just 25-24.  The Saints were slightly outscored before halftime as the teams entered the locker room tied 41-41.  Redeemer cooled off considerably from the field but got to the free throw line to stay within striking distance and trailed 62-58.  St. Clair ran away with the game in the fourth though as their depth finally wore down the tired visitors.

The Saints outshot Redeemer by 18 attempts (92-74) and converted 39% from the floor.  But a decided advantage on the glass (54-34) produced 24 second chance points for St. Clair.  The Saints also boasted a 27-7 difference in bench scoring and some good low post helped produced 34 points in the paint.

St. Clair's Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) continued her fine season scoring 27 points to go with 8 rebounds and 3 assists.  Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) shot well for the Saints notching 18 points but filled the stat line with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.  Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) netted 12 points adding 6 rebounds for St. Clair while Jessica Paolini (Hamilton, ON) also reached double figures off the bench with 10 points adding 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Stephanie Findlay (Oakville, ON) scored 27 points for Redeemer with 9 rebounds in a losing effort.

The St. Clair Women tip their West Division playoff game with Fanshawe at 6:00pm on Wednesday at the SportsPlex.
