Comeback falls short for Mountaineers to begin 2023

Comeback falls short for Mountaineers to begin 2023

Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball dropped to a .500 record following a five set loss (22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 11-15) to the Redeemer Royals.

Despite the loss the Mountaineers were able to claw back into the match with high intensity after dropping the first two sets.

Mohawk looked more themselves in the third and fourth set, but Redeemer was able to swing momentum back in the fifth set.

Head coach Brad McClure explained what changed in the two sets the Mountaineers were able to win.

"I think the difference is in our finishing," McClure said. "We started executing in the latter part of the match."

Anthony Beijes (Hamilton, ON) had a team-high nine kills, while Ethan May (Hamilton, ON) had a game-high six blocks.

McClure is still content with his team's performance even after the loss.

"I feel that overall serve reception was great, given the small confines of Redeemer," McClure said. "We are playing very well coming off the Christmas break."

Before returning to their home court, the Mountaineers will play one more road match on Jan. 14 against the St. Clair Saints starting at 1 p.m.
