Baseball Opens Season with Sweep at Durham

Oshawa, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team got their 2019 campaign off to a good start with a pair of wins in Oshawa over Durham College at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Saints topped Durham 10-5 in the opening game of the doubleheader and finished the day off with a 15-1 verdict.

In the opener Saints 4th year pitcher Micah Harris (Cottam, ON/Essex District) gave up only 2 earned runs while spreading out 5 hits over 6 innings of work to earn the win. St. Clair punished the Durham pitching with 15 hits led by 2nd year third baseman Ryley Vernon (Lasalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) who had 3 hits of his own including a double to go with 3 RBI's. 2nd year first baseman Michael McKay (Miramichi, NB) also had 3 hits including a triple and 2 RBI's for the Saints.

St. Clair kept the onslaught coming in the second game with another 16-hit attack led again by Vernon who collected another 4 hits and 4 RBI's. Rookie shortstop Francisco Rivera (Hermosillo, Mexico) also smacked 4 hits with a double and 2 RBI's. Saints starting pitcher Travis Snyder (Battle Creek, MI) went the distance for the win giving up only 1 earned run on 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3 Durham batters.

St. Clair finishes their GTA road trip with a single game at Christie Pits in Toronto against George Brown College on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 2:00pm.
