No. 6-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball are heading to the OCAA Quarterfinals following a clean sweep, 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-21), over the defending champion Fanshawe Falcons.

The Mountaineers soared during the first two sets, but had to fight hard during the third set to earn the victory.

Fanshawe came into the match having won the OCAA Championship two years in a row and was the team that eliminated the Mountaineers from the playoffs in both 2019 and 2020.

Mohawk head coach Matthew Schnarr was impressed with his team's performance.

"We definitely got a monkey off of our back," Schnarr said. "It's a do or die situation now so we have to come ready to play."

Fifth-year setter Amanda Kuiper (Woodstock, ON) played an exceptional game, assisting on 26 points and serving four aces.

"I think she was the best player in the gym tonight. I think she's the best player in the province," Schnarr said of Kuiper. "Watching her lead our team to victory was amazing to watch."

Julia Watson (Burlington, ON) also had a solid match, completing 10 kills. Irene Jaramillo Restrepo (Manizales, Colombia) was solid with her service, providing seven aces.

With the win the Mountaineers will host an OCAA Quarterfinal match on Mar. 12 at 3 p.m. inside the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre when they play the Algonquin Wolves.
