Basketball Hosts Fanshawe Friday on Alumni Night

Windsor, ON – It doesn't get much better than this in Ontario College Basketball as St. Clair College hosts Fanshawe College (London) Friday night in OCAA West Division action at the SportsPlex.  St. Clair is ranked 4th provincially in both Men's (9-2) and Women's (8-2) basketball with the Men's team sitting at #14 in Canada.  Fanshawe is ranked #2 provincially in both Men's (9-2) and Women's (9-1) basketball.  Both Fanshawe teams are ranked nationally with the Women at #8 and the Men at #11.

The evening is even more special as all spectators will receive free admission for the doubleheader courtesy of the St. Clair College Alumni Association.  The festivities will include a cash bar, giveaways, door prizes and draws thanks to the Alumni Association's support.  The Women's Game will tip at 6:00pm followed by the Men's game at 8:00pm.

The St. Clair Women are led by 3rd year twin sisters Logan and Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON).  Logan is 6th in provincial scoring at 18.6 points per game adding 7.3 rebounds per contest.  Jana is 4th in provincial assists dishing out 4.4 a game and sits 15th in OCAA scoring at 15.5 per game.  Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) also averages double figures at 13.2 points per game also for the Saints.  Reigning OCAA Player of the Year Chuot Angou (London) leads Fanshawe in scoring at 16.5 points per game who defeated St. Clair in London by a score of 84-65 back in October as well as 72-67 at the Seneca Tournament in early January.  This rematch of last year's OCAA Championship game will definitely have an impact on both teams who are still in contention for the West Division title.

The Men's game will feature identical 9-2 records with someone emerging in 1st place in the West Division.  St. Clair beat Fanshawe 82-79 in London back in October and the Falcons have since gone on an 8-game win streak.  The St. Clair Men are once again led by 4th year transfer guard David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) who ranks 6th in provincial scoring at 20.8 points per game.  Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) hits double figures at 14.5 per game with Glynn Willis-Paris (Detroit, MI/Kennedy Collegiate) and Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) each chipping in with 10.5 and 10.0 points per game respectively.  Fanshawe is led by Alfred Johnson (London, ON) who is 5th in provincial scoring at 21.0 points per game.

The Highrise Basketball organization is also hosting their annual Hoopin' Around the Clock event this weekend at the SportsPlex.  Started in 2016 this unique 24-hour fundraiser is a means to give support back to the Windsor/Essex community.  Teams from all over the area including school and club teams along with businesses, community organizations, and groups of friends will come together to compete against one another in modified versions of a basketball game in the spirit of fun, community, and charity.?  The 4th Annual event in January 2019 hosted 825 people representing 72 teams featuring squads from the Town of Kingsville, the Ontario Provincial Police and Windsor Police Services, HUB, Century 21 Real Estate, PEPSICO, and Windsor Family Credit Union.  To date the event has raised $104,000 in support of local organizations in our community.
