Knights Perfect Record Spoiled by Saints in 55-45 Loss

February 27, 2022 - The Niagara Knights women's basketball team saw their unbeaten streak come to and end at home on Saturday afternoon in the battle for first place in the West Division.

The St. Clair Saints rolled into town looking to keep their unbeaten streak alive with a 4-0 record coming into Saturday's game, while the Knights were 5-0 looking to maintain their unpolished record as well.

The Knights ended the first quarter with a bit of an edge on the Saints leading 13-10.

Both teams played a very defensive game which ultimately resulted in low scoring quarters, ending the half with St. Clair up 24-22 to head into the third quarter.

The Knights and Saints took turns taking the lead through the third keeping the score close until the final minute when St. Clair turned up the heat and put some distance between their lead. As the quarter was about to end with the Knights trailing by four, the Saints Logan Kucera hit a jumper at the buzzer to take a 40-34 lead into the final frame.

The blue and white found themselves in a bit of a whole to start the fourth quarter and were held pointless until Lexxus Bell finally got the Knights on the board with a layup. The Knights chipped away at St. Clair's lead through the fourth but ultimately fell 55-45 in their first lost of the 2022 campaign.

Both teams shot evenly from the field with Niagara going 16-67 and St. Clair 18-73. Niagara ran into trouble at the foul line going 9-17, while St. Clair was 14-15.

The Kucera sisters from St. Clair carried the majority of scoring for the Saints, combining for 38 of their teams 55 points.

Janee Harrison led the Knights with 15 points, followed by Taryn Mitchell with 10. Terin Hultink pulled down a season high 19 rebounds.
