Softball Suffers Doubleheader Sweep to Conestoga

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team lost 9-7 and 7-3 to Conestoga College (Kitchener) Sunday afternoon at Mic Mac Park and are still looking for their first win of the season.

In the opening game Conestoga used a pair of long balls to score 3 runs in the 1st inning but the Saints answered with 3 of their own in the bottom half. The teams traded runs in the 3rd and St. Clair picked up 3 runs in the 4th for a 7-4 lead. But Conestoga scored 2 runs in the 5th and 6th to take the lead and tacked on another in the 7th for the win. 2nd year catcher Lauryn Schram (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's) had a pair of hits and a whopping 5 RBI's for St. Clair. Saints 2nd year first baseman Hannah Desrosiers (Windsor, ON/Kennedy chipped in with 3 hits and an RBI. St. Clair pitcher Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) took the loss giving up 7 earned runs on 10 hits and 2 free passes but struck out 6 Conestoga batters.

In the second game Conestoga compiled a 7-0 lead before St. Clair got on the board with a run in the 5th inning. The Saints mustered 2 runs in the final inning before the visitors locked it down. 2nd year centerfielder Mary O'Neil (Oldcastle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) had two hits and an RBI for St. Clair with Olivia Elliott contributing a pair of doubles in the loss. Saints starting pitcher Hannah Desrosiers suffered the loss in 4 innings of work allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks with only 1 strikeout.

The Saints get back on their home diamond Wednesday night when they host Fanshawe College (London) at Mic Mac Park Little League Diamond #2 with game times of 6:00pm and 8:00pm.
