Knights Men Move to 3-1 with Wins Over Falcons and Mountaineers

February 21, 2022 - The Niagara Knights men's basketball team secured two big wins over the weekend, improving their record to 3-1 for the 2021-2022 season.

Friday night saw the blue and white return to a home town crowd at the Welland Campus Centre, after the College gave the go-ahead for a intimate guest list limited to friends and family. Fans in the stands proved to be the perfect backdrop to the Knights 85-72 win over the Fanshawe Falcons, bouncing them back into the win column after a road loss to Sheridan the week before.

Knights forward Delroy Grandison put up some impressive numbers in the win over the Falcons with 26 points- including 6-9 at the three point arc- and 21 rebounds.

Head coach Phil Mosley said despite the game not being their best team effort, he was happy to come out with the win.

"This was a very important win for us, (over Fanshawe)" said Mosley. "We are battling with consistency and we managed to win not playing our best.

We defended well in the fourth quarter and finished the game strong on both ends of the floor."

The Knights rolled into Sunday afternoons tip-off against Mohawk looking to keep their winning streak going. Niagara led the charge through the first quarter with a 28-18 lead over the Mountaineers before Mohawk stormed back in the second to end the half with 41-39 lead.

The Knights and Mountaineers traded leads for much of the second half before Niagara was able to seal the deal with a 88-82 win.

Grandison again led the way for the Knights with 24 points and 13 rebounds while Kennan Larmand followed up with 19 points.

"This was a big win on the road for us," said Mosley. "We were able to establish a lead in the fourth and managed to answer Mohawk's late game push to seal the victory. Very proud of the teams effort and resilience."

Mosley and the Knights will now look ahead to this week where they will tipoff against the Redeemer Royals (3-1) Tuesday night, before returning home for a double header against St. Clair (4-1) and Lambton (2-2) Saturday and Sunday.
