Men’s Basketball Drop University of Toronto at Home

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team found some tonic down the stretch and secured a 101-85 victory over the University of Toronto (Mississauga) Saturday night at the SportsPlex and upped their record to 5-10 in the OCAA's West Division.

Although the Saints jumped out to a 25-18 lead after the first quarter Toronto came right back and were only down 49-46 at the halftime intermission.  Toronto continued that momentum in the third and led by as much as 6 points before the Saints took back a slim 70-69 advantage heading to the final frame.  But St. Clair owned the fourth shooting 67% from the floor including 56% from deep outscoring Toronto 31-16 down the stretch.  The key statistic for the Saints in the game was excellent shooting from long range as they made 16 triples in the contest.

St. Clair's Jalen Sykes (Redford, MI) was remarkable making 7 triples on his way to a game high 28 points while adding 6 rebounds to go with 3 rim protecting blocked shots.  David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) scored 23 points to go with 7 assists and Nik Veigli (Cottam, ON/Essex District) had his best game of the season netting 22 points including 6 triples while recording a double-double with 11 rebounds.  Ian Smart (Chatham, ON) chipped in with 14 points for the Saints.

The St. Clair Men's Basketball team head out on the road next weekend at Mohawk College (Hamilton) on Saturday and finish their road trip at Conestoga College (Kitchener) on Sunday.  The Saints are next at home Feb. 8th against Fanshawe College (London).
