Women’s Basketball Suffer First Loss in London
London, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team (2-1) suffered their first loss of the regular season to Fanshawe College in London Wednesday night by a score of 84-65. Fanshawe (3-0) came into the game the top ranked OCAA team and the 5th ranked team in the country while the Lady Saints were at #2 in Ontario and #8 nationally.
St. Clair struggled out the gate with Fanshawe taking a 23-11 lead into the second quarter which grew to 46-27 by halftime. However, the Saints put on a show in the third quarter shooting 58% from the field and tied the game at 54-54 late in the frame. But, Fanshawe regained a slim 57-54 before the start of the fourth quarter and never looked back. Fanshawe outshot St. Clair from deep making 13 triples at a 46% clip and nearly 40% from the floor in the game. The Saints made 8 from beyond the arc but only at 26% and shot 33% overall which proved to be the large factor in the game. St. Clair was also outscored 17-4 in production off the bench.
Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) led the Saints scoring 24 points and added 7 rebounds. Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) was hot from distance making 5 triples on her way to 17 points to go with 7 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots while Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) also reached double figures with 13 points adding 6 rebounds for St. Clair. Keirsten Tomkins (Sarnia, ON) had 11 rebounds for the Saints while scoring 5 points but dished out 6 assists to make a big impression on the game.
The St. Clair Women's Basketball team head back out on the road for their next league game Tuesday at Lambton College in Sarnia.
