A strong performance from Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball proved that they belong as a top team in the OCAA, unfortunately their efforts against the Cambrian Golden Shield were not enough, losing 3-2 (25-16, 18-25, 23-25, 25-19, 12-15).

Mohawk entered the match in three-way tie for the fourth seed in the OCAA West and now drop to 7-6 on the season, while Cambrian improved to 10-3.

Head coach Brad McClure commented on the importance of closing out sets.

"Overall we did a great job, but we needed to finish on opportunities, "McClure said. "I think we were on the spot when we needed to, but there were some moments were Cambrian handled situations a bit better than us. There are lots of good opportunities to learn from moving forward."

Anthony Beijes (Hamilton, ON) continued to be a dominate outside hitter for Mohawk.

"Players like Beijes contributed a lot offensively and others like Turner Neame were awesome defensively, keeping the plays alive for us," McClure said. "It is always nice to see the guys take some lessons learned and start to apply them."

The Mountaineers will now head on the road to play the Humber Hawks on Jan. 26 at 8 p.m.
