Women's Volleyball Earn Split to End Regular Season

(Windsor, ON)- The St. Clair women's volleyball team wrapped up their OCAA regular season schedule with a split this past weekend.

On Friday afternoon, the Saints hosted the top ranked Humber Hawks (Etobicoke) and suffered a tough 3-0 loss in an rare afternoon matinee.

Set scores for Humber were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15. The Saints fell behind early in each set and could not claw their way back after that. Outside hitter Chantal DeVlugt (Wyoming; LCCVI) led the way for St. Clair with 6 kills, 2 service aces, 1 stuff block and 2 digs. Humber improved to 7-1 on the year with the win. The Hawks are ranked in 1st in Ontario and 4th in Canada.

On Saturday afternoon the Saints travelled to Oakville to take on the Sheridan Bruins and came home with a solid 3-1 win.

Set scores for St. Clair were 24-26, 25-11, 25-14 and 25-14. Rookie outside hitter Kiana Huggins (London; Saunders) had a great match for the Saints with 10 kills, 1 service ace, 1 stuff block and 13 digs.  Rookie middle Krista Nichol (Hamilton; Westmount) also had a solid game with 3 kills on 7 attempts , 3 service aces, 2 stuff blocks, 4 assists and a dig in 2 only two sets played. Rookie setter Kate Williams (Georgetown; Georgetown District) had an outstanding match as well spreading the ball around well with 25 assists, 2 kills, 3 service aces and 5 digs.

With the split St. Clair ends the COVID shortened regular season with a record of 6-3. The St. Clair women are currently ranked in 5th in Ontario and finished in 4th place in the OCAA West Divisoin

The Saints have earned a playoff home game which will take place at the Sportsplex on Thursday at 7 pm against the Niagara Knights.
