St. Clair Women’s Softball Extend Winning Streak to 18

Oshawa, ON – The St. Clair Women's Softball team completed yet another weekend sweep of the competition this weekend, going 4-0 in four road games on Saturday and Sunday extending their OCAA league leading record to 18-0 on the season.

 In their first of two games on Saturday, the Saints defeated the Sheridan Bruins (Oakville, ON) 15-0 in a shortened 3-inning mercy. Rya Cowan pitched 2 scoreless innings for the Saints to record her first win of the season on the mound. At the plate, the Saints had a balanced attack capturing 14 hits over the 3 innings of play. The Saints were lead by Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, ON) who went 2-2 with a Home Run, a triple, a single, a walk, and notched 3 runs and 4 RBI.

Game 2 on Saturday featured a tilt between St. Clair and the defending OCAA Champion Durham Lords (Oshawa, ON). The Saints struggled at the plate early as Durham held onto a 1-0 lead through 5 innings. The Saints showed their firepower at the plate in the top of the 6th inning when they finally broke through with a 5 run inning to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Bryanna Kressler pitched a complete game, giving up 1 ER and recording 10 strikeouts as the Saints held onto a 6-3 victory.

On Sunday, the Saints took care of business quickly against the Seneca Sting (Toronto, ON) with a 12-0 win in a shortened 5 inning affair. Reigning OCAA Player of Year Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) lead the way for the Saints, pitching 3 shutout innings while also 2-3 at the plate with a double, a walk, 1 run scored and 4 RBI.

In the last game of the weekend, the Saints played host to the Humber Hawks (Etobicoke, ON) in a neutral site contest. Humber jumped on the Saints quickly, scoring a run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. It didn't take long for the Saints bats to come back to life as they scored 2 runs in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 4th to take a 5-2 lead and they never looked back, defeating Humber 7-2 to extend their OCAA league leading record to 18-0. First year athlete Alexis DiCarlo (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) had a standout game for the Saints hitting 8th in the lineup for the Saints going 1-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.

The St. Clair women's softball team now turns their attention to the national stage as they welcome teams from all across Canada to Windsor as they host the CCSA National Championship on Thanksgiving weekend (Oct 7-9) at the St. Clair College SportsPlex Diamond. St. Clair plays their first game on Friday at 12:00pm as they host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.
