Basketball Host Big Games on Grad Weekend

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's and Men's Basketball teams host a big weekend at the SportsPlex in their final regular season home games against perennial powers Sheridan College (Brampton) on Saturday and Humber College (Etobicoke) on Sunday.  The Saints will also be recognizing their graduating athletes across several varsity sports at halftime in addition to ceremonies for the women's and men's basketball players prior to their games on Sunday.

The Sheridan Women are 9-6 (West Division 4th Place) behind St. Clair who are 11-3 and in 3rd Place.  The Sheridan is ranked 8th provincially while St. Clair is 3rd in the OCAA while sitting 14th nationally.  Humber is the top ranked Women's team in the province and is 8th in the most recent national poll.  As host of the Provincial Championship tournament St. Clair receives a bye directly to the ¼ finals but is looking to improve their seed in the opening round of the event and knock other teams into tougher matchups.  In late November the St. Clair Women defeated Sheridan 53-50 in Brampton but in the same weekend lost 66-58 to Humber in Etobicoke.

The St. Clair Women continue to be led by 3rd year 5'6" twin sisters Logan and Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON).  Logan is 10th in provincial scoring at 17.0 points per game while adding 6.9 rebounds per contest.  Jana is 6th in provincial assists dishing out 4.2 per game and sits 15th in OCAA scoring at 15.3 per game.  5'9" swing player Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) also averages double figures at 12.0 points per game for the Saints to go with 6.7 rebounds.  Mid-season addition 6'0" forward Nicole Tamm (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) is scoring 11.0 points while adding 8.8 rebounds per game.  5'5" guard Keirsten Tomkins (Sarnia, ON) is 5th in provincial rebounding at 10.5 per game for St. Clair.

The Sheridan Women are led in scoring by 5'9" guard Theresa Brown (Brampton, ON) who averages 14.2 points per game.  The Humber Women have a pair of players averaging 14.0 points per game in 6'0" post Miea Campbell-Johnson (Brampton, ON) and 5'7" guard Jahnae Gyles (Port Credit, ON).

The Sheridan and Humber Men's team are tied atop the OCAA's West Division with Redeemer who all hold a 13-4 record.  St. Clair is right on their heels at 12-4 so the final push will determine playoff seeding and who will earn the right to host a crossover playoff game Feb. 29th.  The way it currently stands the top three teams in the West will host a crossover playoff game against the East Division 5th through 7th seeds.  Humber is the top ranked team in the OCAA and stand 8th nationally.  Sheridan is ranked 4th provincially and 15th nationally with St. Clair dropped down to 6th in the OCAA.  St. Clair lost both their games in the GTA to Sheridan (112-79) and Humber (107-89) in late November.

4th year 6'2" transfer guard David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) continues to lead the Saints and ranks 5th in provincial scoring at 20.9 points per game and adds 3.3 assists.  6'3" guard Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) hits double figures at 12.7 per game with 6'5" swing player Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) chipping in with 10.4 points per game and 3.4 assists for St. Clair.

The Humber Men are led in scoring by 6'5" forward Jaylan Morgan (Brampton, ON) who averages 18.6 points per game but 6'5" forward Cy Samuels (North York, ON) is 4th in provincial rebounding pulling down 10.0 per game.  The Sheridan Men are led by a pair of OCAA top five scoring guards in 6'3" Nick Campbell (Brampton, ON) and 6'0" Jemol Edwards (Brampton, ON).  Campbell leads the province at 24.1 per game with Edwards sitting 4th and netting 20.9 per game.

The Women's game tips at 4:00pm on Saturday against Sheridan followed by the Men's game at 6:00pm.  On Sunday St. Clair will face off against the Humber Women starting at 1:00pm immediately before the Men's game at 3:00pm.
