Men’s Basketball Nip Redeemer

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team got back on the winning track with an 85-81 victory over Redeemer University College (Ancaster) Friday night at the SportsPlex.  The Saints are now just a game back of first place in the OCAA's West Division with an 8-2 record.

A tight contest from the outset St. Clair held a 22-20 lead after the opening quarter and moved that to a 43-37 advantage by the halftime intermission.  Redeemer had their best quarter in the third and were up 59-58 heading to the last.  But St. Clair fought their way through some testy moments down the stretch shooting 53% in the fourth and Redeemer could not keep pace.  St. Clair was outshot from distance (14-8) but scored 38 points in the paint on easy baskets around the hoop which proved to be a key stat.

Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) led St. Clair with 17 points and added 5 assists.  David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Michigan) scored 14 points with teammate Glynn Willis-Paris (Detroit, MI/Kennedy Collegiate) recording a double-double scoring 13 points to go with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.  Miles Hall (Toronto, ON) chipped in with 12 points and dished out 7 assists for the Saints.  Jerry Mercury (Toronto, ON) had a good all-around game with 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 points for St. Clair.

Elijay Lastroco (Oakville, ON) scored a game high 23 points for Redeemer in the loss.

The St. Clair Men's Basketball team host Conestoga College (Kitchener) Saturday at 3:00pm in their final game before the holiday break.
