Baseball Tops Fanshawe in Home Finale

Tecumseh, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team used strong pitching to win their final home game of the regular season Friday night at Lacasse Park by a score of 2-0 over Fanshawe College (London).  With the win St. Clair improved to 11-5 on the season and knocked Fanshawe (9-9) out the playoff picture.  With a pair of games against Lambton rained out on Saturday the Saints are hopeful to greater improve their standing in the final four Provincial Championship being hosted by Durham College in Oshawa Oct. 18-19.  Humber College (13-5) sits atop the OCAA with Durham (10-6) and Seneca (10-7) still jockeying for position with games to be played Tuesday.

In Friday night's win St. Clair did not record a hit until the 5th inning but scored 2 runs using the sacrifice fly courtesy of Ryley Vernon (Lasalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) and Travis Snyder (Battle Creek, MI).  Michael McKay (Miramichi, NB) had the lone hit for St. Clair and scored a run as did Brendan Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova).  Austin Oulds (Chatham, ON) got credit for the other RBI for the Saints.  Luis Barrios (Cali, Columbia) started for the Saints but had to be prematurely lifted in the 3rd inning giving way to Snyder for the remaining 4 1/3 innings.  Barrios only gave up 2 hits while striking out 4 in short work but Snyder was equally stingy notching 6 strikeouts and only surrendered a pair of hits also for St. Clair.

The St. Clair Baseball team goes on the road Tuesday to play Lambton College in Sarnia for their remaining two games of the regular season.
