Women’s Basketball Best Redeemer 70-55

Ancaster, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team started their weekend road trip with a 70-55 win over Redeemer University (Ancaster) Saturday evening and pushed their record above .500 to 4-3 in the OCAA's West Division.

Redeemer was no match early for a hot shooting (55%) Saints squad who took a 30-16 lead after the first quarter.  St. Clair cooled off in next frame but were still ahead 38-26 by the halftime intermission.  Redeemer closed to within seven points in the third quarter, but the Saints were able to create a comfortable cushion for the remainder of the game.

Shae-lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) led all scorers with 20 points but contributed 4 rebounds and 4 steals for St. Clair.  Alyssa Lucier (Wallaceburg, ON) and Janae Smith (Warren, MI) were the other Saints to reach double figures who each netted 14 points. 

Although outrebounded (48-41) in the contest St. Clair was able to create 27 more shot attempts than Redeemer while converting a higher percentage which included a 12-4 advantage in points around the basket.  The Saints also scored 22 points off 26 Redeemer turnovers. 

Julia Stayshyn (Dundas, ON) scored 14 points for Redeemer in the loss. 

The Saints visit Conestoga College (Kitchener) on Sunday for a 1:00pm tip-off which will be their final game before the semester break.
