Kitchener, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team finished off the first half of their regular season schedule with a hard fought 58-52 win at Conestoga College in Kitchener Sunday afternoon. With a 5-3 record the Saints have slotted themselves into 3rd place in the OCAA's West Division.
A tight game throughout St. Clair managed to stake themselves to a modest 15-12 lead after the first quarter and increased their advantage to 34-28 by halftime. Conestoga inched back into contention winning the third quarter 14-12 but the Saints pushed their lead to as much as 11 points early in the fourth. Conestoga made a late run but would come no closer than five points down the stretch.
St. Clair's Shae-lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) led all scorers with 19 points and added 6 rebounds. Janae Smith (Warren, MI) was a rebound shy of a double-double with 18 points and 9 boards for the Saints while Alyssa Lucier (Wallaceburg, ON) was almost as impressive with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
The teams matched themselves nearly even in most statistical categories, but the Saints limited the home team to under 30% shooting and just one make from beyond the 3-point arc.
