Women's soccer remains winless on the 2021/22 campaign following a 5-1 road loss to the Niagara Knights.

While it was another disappointing outcome for the Mountaineers, head coach Paul Giannini pinpointed were things went grow for the young team.

"We came out and played a good first ten minutes, but once they scored, it seemed like everyone got deflated and stopped playing," he said.

In those early minutes of the match the Mountaineers looked consistent on the attack, but in the 11th minute the Knights' Ashley Altamirano changed the momentum with the first goal of the game.

Niagara would take a 3-1 lead into halftime thanks to two goals by Sydney Sica. Sandwiched between the Knights goals was the Mountaineers lone goal by Sam Mathieu's in the 24th minute.

In the second half, the Knights extended their lead after goals by Sica and Terin Hultink.

Mohawk has now lost three games this season with one draw, while only two games remain on the schedule.

"There is going to be a lot to fix, but we will be ready for Saturday," Giannini said.

Women's soccer will return to Dave Mantel Field on Saturday, Oct. 2 but this time as the road team. They will play the Redeemer Royals at 4 p.m.
