The Loyalist Lancers women's volleyball team battled hard during their road trip to Ottawa but they came up short in both matches.
The Lancers faced off against the Algonquin Wolves Friday night. After a tough start to the game, the Lancers dug deep and fought their way to a remarkable 31-29 win in the second set. The Wolves answered back, winning the next two sets 25-21 and 25-17 to take the game 3-1.
Second-year standout Charlie Cudmore (Ottawa, ON) led the way with 18 kills, 2 aces, for a total of 20 total points, while libero Erika Robertson (Uxbridge, ON) anchored the team defensively with 18 digs.
In part two of their double header weekend, the Lancers fell in the first two sets again the La Cite Coyotes, 25-23 and 25-17. With a 26-24 win in the third, the Lancers pushed to a fourth set but were unable to extend to 5, losing the set 28-26 to fall 3-1.
Second year Lancer Amber Verbruggen (North Frontenac, ON) turned in a career high performance with 9 kills and an astounding 9 blocks for 18 total points. Veteran setter Georgi Williams (Oshawa, ON) contributed 37 assists in the 4 set match.
The Lancers look to get back in the win column when they host the Centennial Colts on Wednesday, November 27th.
