Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball returned to action after the COVID-19 pandemic put a hold on the beginning of the season.

The Mountaineers showed no signs of rust to begin their season as they defeated the Fanshawe Falcons in London in three sets (25-19, 25-14, 25-22).

"I felt that is was a great start to the season," head coach Brad McClure said. "Being able to sweep an opponent on the road is always a positive."

Both Turner Neame (Hamilton, ON) and Andrew Kong (Burlington, ON) were highlighted by McClure for their performances against the Falcons.

"Neame ran a great offence and put our attackers in a great position all day," McClure said.

"Kong also had a standout performance with the stability on the service line and overall defensive quality he created for us."

Nathan Snippe (St. Ann's, ON) was a standout as well, completing 17 kills in three sets.

The Mountaineers look to continue working as a team going into their next match.

"Going into the next game will be more about refining our systems and looking to build on what we did well," McClure said.

The Mountaineers will travel to Windsor to play the St. Clair Saints on Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. In preseason play Mohawk had success over the Saints, coming away with three victories.
