A tough matchup on the road resulted in a 3-1 (29-27, 22-25, 13-25, 19-25) loss for the No. 12-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball team versus the Redeemer Royals.

The struggles for Mohawk appeared in the serve and pass battle, explained head coach Brad McClure.

"We dug ourselves in some pretty big holes early in sets and didn't do ourselves many favours offensively," McClure said.

McClure highlighted that from a performance standpoint, no one really excelled during the match but that some players remained positive despite the loss.

"Oliver Sant (Hamilton, ON) came off the bench and provided some positive energy when we were struggling," McClure said. "I also felt that Turner Neame (Hamilton, ON) ran a pretty effective offence relative to the pass quality we were providing him."

Brayden Griffith (Winnipeg, MB) led the Mountaineers with 14 kills, while Michael Kong (Burlington, ON) and Nathan Snippe (St. Ann's, ON) each had 10 kills.

Please note that the women's match between Mohawk and Redeemer was deemed a default 3-0 win for the Mountaineers due to the Royals having a limited roster.

Mohawk's men's team (3-2) will look to get back in the win column on Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. when they host the Conestoga Condors. The women (4-1) will also play the Condors on Feb. 26 at 1 p.m.

At this time, no spectators will be allowed for all Mountaineer home games. Every game will be streamed on OCAA Live.
