Mountaineers men's soccer clinched a spot in the OCAA playoffs following a 1-1 draw versus the Redeemer Royals.

The Royals took advantage of a Mohawk defensive error early to take a 1-0 lead.

Jordan Brown, head coach of the Mountaineers, said the team was not at its best during the first half.

"We didn't really play the way that we can," Brown said. "We were playing at a slow pace and that first goal seemed to put us out of sync."

In the second half, second-year midfielder Mina Tawfik got the Mountaineers on the board to tie the game.

Looking ahead to the next game, Brown expects an intense match.

"Our next game will be a battle," Brown said. "It will be tough because they are a good team, but we were close to beating them last time we played so we are going in hungry."

Mohaw's next game will be the final match of the OCAA season against the Sheridan Bruins. The game will take place at Tim Hortons Field with kick-off at 8 p.m.

Mohawk closes out its group stage this Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, against Sheridan Bruins. The game will be played at 8 p.m. at the iconic Tim Hortons Stadium. No spectators will be allowed at this game due to COVID-19 safety protocols.
