Softball Drops Pair to Durham to Open Season

indsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team were swept in their home openers to defending OCAA Champion Durham College (Oshawa) Saturday afternoon at Mic Mac Park.  The Saints were on the losing end of 7-2 and 3-1 scores.

Saints 3rd year pitcher Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) took the loss giving up 5 earned runs on 14 hits in the opening game but struck out 6 Durham batters. 2nd year first baseman Rya Cowan (Lasalle, ON/Sandwich) provided a spark for St. Clair with a solo home run in the 2nd inning to put her team ahead and after adding a run in the 4th the Saints seemed to have control.  However, Durham responded with 4 runs in the bottom half and never looked back.

In the second game Durham went ahead 1-0 in the 3rd inning and 3-0 in the 5th before the Saints answered with a run in the bottom half.  However, even though St. Clair threatened down the stretch that was all the scoring in the contest.  Jenna Hillman (Windsor, ON/Tecumseh Vista Academy) had a pair of hits including a double and scored a run to pace the Saints offensively.  Hannah Desrosiers (Windsor, ON/Kennedy Collegiate) suffered the loss pitching a complete game after giving up 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out a pair.

The Saints complete their home stand Sunday when they host Conestoga College (Kitchener) at Mic Mac Park Little League Diamond #2 with game times of 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
