Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer picked up four out of six available points in two tough road matches to begin the 2022 season. In their latest contest, they tied the Lambton Lions 1-1.

The Mountaineers controlled the match with 19 shots in the first half, but the Lions took the early lead in the 21st minute.

First-year Erica Cupiraggi (Niagara Falls, ON) would get Mohawk on the board ahead of halftime to bring the game to a tie.

The second half featured a lot of keep away between from the Lions, making it difficult for the Mountaineers to create scoring opportunities.

"Lambton played for the tie and made it difficult for us to score," said Mohawk head coach Paul Giannini.

Mohawk will focus on getting better in the final third of the field as the season progresses.

The Mountaineers will next play in their home opener at their new home – Tim Hortons Field – versus cross-city rival the Redeemer Royals. The women's match begins at 6 p.m. and the men will follow at 8 p.m.

Admission to Tim Hortons Field is free with spectators welcome to enter no earlier than 5:30 p.m.
