Women’s Basketball Cage Cougars

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team defeated Sault College (Sault Ste. Marie) at the SportsPlex Saturday evening by a score of 67-44 pushing their record to 4-1 in OCAA West Division league play. The St. Clair Women a ranked #3 in the province and #13 nationally.

Sault took an early 15-12 lead over the Lady Saints who were slow out of the gate.  But St. Clair responded with their best quarter in the second outscoring Sault 26-5 in the frame for a comfortable 38-20 halftime lead.  Sault came back with their best output in the third quarter and only trailed 47-37 heading to the fourth where they closed the gap to within 8 points.  The Saints took control from that point and ran away down the stretch using a 17-2 run to close out the victory.  St. Clair made 11 triples in the contest to just 3 for visitors and forced 35 Sault turnovers.  

St. Clair 2nd year player Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) led all scorers with 25 points including 7 triples while adding 4 rebounds and 4 assists.  Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) scored 16 points for the Saints and narrowly missed a double-double with 9 assists to go with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.  Sister Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) snatched 11 rebounds and scored 7 points on top of 4 assists and 4 steals.  Keirsten Tomkins (Sarnia, ON) chipped in with 9 rebounds for St. Clair adding 8 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. 

Cassidy Sabourin (Timmins, ON) scored 20 points for Sault in the loss.  

The St. Clair Women's Basketball team match up again with Sault on Sunday with tip time at 1:00pm.
