Game Preview: Mountaineers hope to snap losing streak versus winless Vipères

Mountaineers versus Vipers

Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball is back on their home court for the first time in 2023. They'll host a winless Borèal Vipères team Friday evening at 6 p.m.

The game will be available to view on OCAA Live.

Admission to the game is free.

The Matchup:

Both the Mountaineers and Vipères enter the match with the hope of ending their losing streak. Borèal has lost all their matches thus far in the 2022-23 season, currently 0-11 on the season. Mohawk's streak isn't as daunting, but after having started the season with five consecutive victories the team has now lost six in a row.

What Happened Last Time:

The last time these two teams met it was the second match of the season. It was the Mountaineers who came out on top 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-23).

Sofia Spoljar (Hamilton, ON) and Ashley Gibbons (Hamilton, ON) led an all-around performance from the Mountaineers with seven kills each.

Megan Ouellette-Destin provided solid defence for the Vipères with a game-high nine digs.

Who to Watch For:

Lexie Zicari (Burlington, ON) will be a key to Mohawk's outside game. It was only three games ago the outside hitter accomplished 13 kills in a match. Zicari's season-high is 17 kills, a performance the Mountaineers would love to see again.

Along with her defence, Ouellette-Destin has been a strong offensively for the Vipères. Ouellette-Destin leads Borèal with 33 total kills.

What's Next:

Mohawk will be right back in action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they host the Cambrian Golden Shield.
