Quick work was made by Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball as they swept the Sheridan Bruins, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17), for their eighth win of the season.

Serving was a key aspect to the Mountaineers win, and head coach Kelsey Kovar acknowledged the Mohawk strength.

"Our service and our ball control were good," Kovar said. "I think we served really well, and we also spread the ball well offensively, giving us a good result."

The Mountaineers have now won three consecutive on their home court with two of their final three games of the season left to played at the DBARC.

Irene Jaramillo (Manizales, CO) led the way with 12 kills and Lexie Zicari (Burlington, ON) was also strong offensively with eight kills. Yvonne Mann (Kitchener, ON) assisted on 29 plays and Anika Gatto (Coquitlam, BC) continued to add to her strong season numbers with 13 digs.

With playoffs on the horizon, Mohawk will be looking to climb to standings for better seeding.

"The upcoming games are huge for us," Kovar said. "We must continue on this upward trajectory and work grittier than any other team."

The Mountaineers will be back in the DBARC on Feb. 1 when they host the Conestoga Condors at 6 p.m.
