Men's Soccer Defeat Mohawk

The St. Clair men's soccer team kept their hopes for a home playoff game alive on Friday night. The Saints earned a hard fought 2-1 win over the Mohawk Mountaineers at home in Amherstburg in OCAA soccer action.

The Saints dominated play for most of the first half but did not find the net until the 40 minute mark on a nice goal by Nick Bauer (Windsor; Riverside). Tyrone Mulder (Merlin; Chatham-Kent) made it 2-0 on a nice strike from distance.  St. Clair had 12 shot attempts in the first half compared to 4 for Mohawk. The Mohawk keeper made 6 saves in the first half while Haiden Gelinas (Windsor; St. Joseph's) only had to make 2.

Mohawk made a push in the second half and ended up making it 2-1 in the 82nd minute off of a corner kick. The Saints had 8 shot attempts in the second half while Mohawk had 5.

With the win St. Clair is now 5-4 on the season while Mohawk dropped to 1-8. The St. Clair men are currently ranked 10th in the OCAA.

The Saints are next in action on Sunday, October 14 when they play their final regular season game in Welland against the Niagara Knights. St. Clair will have to win the game and hope that Redeemer loses to Fanshawe on Saturday in order to move into 3rd place and host a playoff game on Saturday October 20. If not they will be on the road next weekend in a playoff crossover match.
