Women’s Basketball Roll at Conestoga

Kitchener, ON – The #8 nationally ranked St. Clair College Women's Basketball team kept rolling Sunday afternoon and moved their OCAA West Division leading record to 6-0 after a 73-43 victory at Conestoga College (1-5) in Kitchener.

The Saints were all over Conestoga early jumping to a 25-8 lead after the first quarter and although they were outscored in the next frame St. Clair went into the halftime intermission with a comfortable 40-24 advantage.  Conestoga never threatened the rest of the game as St. Clair held them to under 20% shooting overall in the contest.  The Saints enjoyed a decided difference in rebounding (66-38) and points off the bench (31-0) as well as points in the paint (42-18).

Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) needed to score just 12 points to lead St. Clair in the win as playing time was spread around which allowed all eleven players dressed to record a basket.  Selina Shaw (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) had her best performance of the season scoring 11 points and added 4 rebounds off the St. Clair bench.  Grace Smrke (Sudbury, ON) also reached double figures scoring 10 points but contributed 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot.  Desiree Byrd (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) also chipped in 8 points off the bench but hit double digits in rebounds with 10 to go with a steal and blocked shot.

Conestoga had a short bench but got a game high 26 points from Ramla Abdalla (Waterloo, ON) in a losing cause.

The St. Clair Women finish their regular season at home with a pair of games next weekend facing Mohawk College (Hamilton) on Friday night and then Redeemer University College (Ancaster) on Saturday.
