Game Preview: OCAA West remains close as Mountaineers eye higher seed

A Thursday night match between the Mohawk Mountaineers and Humber Hawks features two teams looking to claim a top-four seed in the OCAA West.

Mohawk and Humber will play at 8 p.m. in Etobicoke, ON with the match streamed on OCAA Live.

The Matchup:

If the middle of the OCAA West wasn't already cloudy with four teams battling for the third and fourth seeds, a Mountaineers win could make it even more interesting.

Mohawk enters the match as the divisions sixth seed with a 7-6 record, while the Hawks are third with an 8-4 record. Redeemer and Niagara sit between the two tied at 8-5.

What Happened Last Time:

Back in November the Mountaineers got the better of the Hawks, winning 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-23). Prior to the win, Mohawk had lost their previous seven against Humber.

Turner Neame (Hamilton, ON) and Peter Pilling (St. Catharines, ON) collectively had a strong defensive game with 13 and 12 digs each, respectively. Pilling also set the ball well with a game-high 29 assists.

Anthony Beijes (Hamilton, ON) was the only one in the game to finish in double digit kills with 13.

Who to Watch For:

A Mohawk record will be one to watch for in this match. Neame is only nine digs away from setting a new Mountaineers record for total digs in a single season. The current record of 142 digs is held by Ryan Dela Rosa.
