Knights Brilliant In Qualifier Win over St. Clair

March 3, 2022 - The Niagara Knights women's volleyball team is moving on to the OCAA quarterfinals on Saturday after defeating the St. Clair Saints 3-2 in a thrilling match Thursday night. The set scores were 18-25, 25-23, 25-20, 26-28, 15-12.

The Knights traveled to Windsor to face the 6-3 Saints Wednesday night for their playoff qualifying match. Last time these two teams met back on February 27th, it was St. Clair who had the upper hand with a 1-3 win. 

Both teams were evenly matched through all five sets despite St. Clair taking set one 18-25.

The Knights came back with a big 25-23 set two win and followed it up with a 25-20 set three win to go up on the Saints 2-1.

Set four proved to be a thriller of a set with both teams trading the lead several times before St. Clair took the 26-28 win to force a fifth and deciding set.

The blue and white were on fire through set five, taking the 15-11 set win and the eventual 3-2 match W to advance to the OCAA quarterfinals.

Fifth year Kendra Adams had a season-high evening, leading the Knights in points with 18 (15 kills, 11 digs). Third year Madelyn Berg had a big night on the stats sheet leading the Knights in kills with 13, and 11 digs. Captain Natasha Desjardins, who lead the league in kills per set (3.58) and total kills (118) recorded 16 points with 11 kills, and 11 digs. 

Niagara will head to Durham College Saturday to face the Lords after they defeated Loyalist College 3-0 Wednesday night. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
