Knights Women Continue Unbeaten Streak with 5-1 Thumping of Mountaineers

September 30, 2021..WELLAND - The Niagara College Knights women's soccer team cruised to a 5-1 win over the Mohawk Mountaineers last night at home. The women remain undefeated this season with a perfect 4-0 record, while Mohawk has yet to register a win in the 201-2022 season. 

Knight's forward Ashley Altamirano opened the scoring for the Knights at the 11 minute mark with an assist from Rylan Greatrix. Captain Sidney Sica added another to go up 2-0 on the Mountaineers- one of her three goals of the night.

The Mountaineers managed to get on the scoresheet with a goal midway through the first half from Sam Mathieu to cut the Knights lead in half briefly. Sica added another to close of the first half with a 3-1 lead.

Sica and Terin Hultink combined for two more in the second half to secure the 5-1 win for the Knights and improving their record to 4-0 with just two more games at hand.

With the win, the Knights secure top spot in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) South division.

Sica and Hultink currently sit on the OCAA points leader board with 12 points each. Each also sit on the goal leader list at 3rd (Sica with 6) and 4th (Hultink with 5). Kayla McQueen of Fanshawe currently leads with 10 goals and 22 points. 

Knights goalkeeper Sierra Naccarato continued her strong peformance with just two goals against in four games this season. 

Head coach Rob Lalama continues to be impressed with his teams chemistry but knows with success comes the need to stay consistent throughout the rest of the season.

"With this seasons success thus far, we know that all teams are now psyched to play us," said Lalama. "We have to continue to raise our game and give a consistent effort every night. Tonight, we did that."

The Knights will look to continue their perfect record this Saturday against Sheridan College (3-1) who's only loss came from Niagara back on September 25th.
