  • HUMBER FINISHES FOURTH AT MEN’S BASKETBALL NATIONALS

    After being knocked out of Championship contention in the first round of the PCL Constructors CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship, the Humber Hawks made through way through the consolation bracket and into the Bronze medal game beating the Mount St. Vincent Mystics 66-65.

    The Sheridan Bruins grabbed the silver medal this past weekend at the 2006 PCL Constructors CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship after a 67-63 loss to the Montmorency Nomades from Laval, Quebec.

    When it came down to the end of the Championships final game, it was the Humber Hawks (Etobicoke) that came out on top. The defending champion Hawks handed the Sheridan Bruins (Oakville) men’s basketball team a 83-76 defeat to capture the provincial banner at the OCAA Men’s Basketball Elite Eight Championship Saturday hosted by Centennial College in Scarborough.

    The top team from each region and the second place team from the Central region will receive byes to the Championships. Meanwhile the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams from the remaining regions will try and earn their spot at the Championships by competing in Qualifying Crossover Games.

    As the 2005 edition of this year’s OCAA Men’s Basketball season came to a close in early December, parity seemed to be the most suitable word to describe the season thus far. With the exception of two undefeated teams – Humber Hawks (5-0) and the St. Lawrence Vikings (6-0) – the divisions remain a logjam of teams fighting to stay in the hunt for that playoff position at the end of February.
