Men's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Nine

ETOBICOKE — Humber men's basketball extended its win streak to nine straight Saturday afternoon, defeating the Conestoga Condors (4-9, 9th West), 91-77.

Humber was led by the duo of DeQuon Cascart and Jaylan Morgan as they combined to score 41 points in this one. Cascart finished with a team-high 21 points, adding five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and a block. Morgan not to be outdone, finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win.

It was a rough opening quarter for Humber as they fell behind big after surrendering a 15-2 run to the Condors. Despite the slow start, the Hawks were able to minimize the damage thanks to an 8-2 run to end the first. Humber allowed a game-high 11 field goals in the frame as Conestoga shot 11-of-20 in the quarter.

Down ten midway through the second quarter, Humber put together an 11-0 run capped off by a Cascart three that gave Humber the lead. Humber's defence was the catalyst during the run as their aggressive play led to turnovers, resulting in easy baskets in transition. Humber finished with five steals in the second alone, while outscoring Conestoga by ten in the frame. Despite the rough start, Humber took a three-point lead into the break.

The break did nothing to slow down Humber's momentum, as the Hawks opened the third on a 17-2 run, blowing the game open. Humber finished with 26 points in the third, shooting 11-of-18 from the floor.

Conestoga fought back in the fourth as they put together a run making, trimming Humber's lead to seven. That would be as close as they would get, however, as Morgan put the Hawks back up double digits after knocking down a three, before a Jordan Francis and-one with two minutes left put the game out of reach.
