Humber big three

No. 4 Women’s Basketball clinches division title

NORTH YORK – On the road to wrap up the 2022 OCAA regular-season, No. 4 Humber women's basketball (7-0, 1st East) cruised to a win over the Seneca Sting, 96-41. The win clinches the East Division title for the Hawks, earning the top seed heading into the postseason.

Kia Watt recorded her second 30-point game of the season, narrowly missing out on her first career triple-double with 32 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Miea Campbell-Johnson added 18 points, while Nikki Ylagen added 12 points of her own. Back in the lineup after missing the last two games, rookie Sarah Baptie recorded her first career double-double, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Hawks got off to another fast start, jumping out to a 16-point lead after 10 mins of play. Seneca (0-6, 8th East) was able to stay close in the first half after Humber's defence allowed the Sting to shoot 43.8 per cent (seven-for-16) from the floor. The Hawks took a 17-point lead into the break, 44-27.

Second-half adjustments from Coach Sharma and his staff had the Hawks dominant both sides of the ball, as Humber outscored the Sting 52-14 over the last 20 minutes of work.

Unless Seneca can pick up two wins to end the season, these programs will meet again in the first round of the postseason.
