The Storyline

Humber men's volleyball will conclude the regular-season Saturday evening when the St. Clair Saints (8-8, 7th West) visit the North Campus Gym. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.

Last Time Out

It was a dominant win for the Hawks on Feb. 9, sweeping the Redeemer Royals (10-8, 4th West). Michael McAlpine led the team in scoring, finishing with 13 points. Gabriel Mendes narrowly missed out on a double-double, recording ten digs and eight kills.

Previous Meeting

Humber recorded its fourth win of the season down in Windsor, as Jaydon Milne led the Hawks with 15 points in a 3-1 victory on Nov. 19.

Scouting St. Clair
  • The Saints enter the match with three straight wins, currently sitting seventh in the west division.
  • St. Clair has locked up a playoff spot and could move into the fifth seed if it wins out to end the season.
  • St. Clair's only OCAA medal came in 2015, a silver medal.
Seniors Night

Four Humber student-athletes will be competing in their final regular season matches and, before first serve, will be recognizing these athletes for their exceptional careers:

  • Jake Gomes – competing in his fifth and final season with the Hawks. A two-time All-Canadian, 2020 OCAA Player of the Year, and Humber's all-time leader in aces and assists.
  • Maximum Crowder – a two-time provincial champion, Max finishes his four seasons with Humber eighth all-time in blocks.
  • Jaydon Milne – after spending two seasons with Niagara, Milne is in his final year of eligibility. In five seasons, Milne has recorded 459 regular-season points during his OCAA career.
  • Safon Manning – a two-time provincial champion, Manning has appeared in 35 matches for the Hawks in three seasons, recording 64 points.
Ace God

Jake Gomes' 40 aces this season are the most in program history – ten behind his record of 50 that he set in 2019. His 156 career aces are good for third all-time in OCAA history – 11 behind Matt Woods' mark of 167 (Loyalist, 2007-12).

Freshman Phenoms

Gabriel Mendes, a first-year outside hitter from Florianópolis, Brazil, is currently second in the conference with a 0.379 swing percentage. Rookie Michael McAlpine is currently leading the team with a 2.7 points-per-set average.

The Wilkins Club

In Humber's win over Sheridan on Feb. 5, Wayne Wilkins joined his brother Chis as the only coaches in Humber history to record 400 career wins.

Ranked

This is the first season the Hawks have not been ranked at the end of the year since 2018. The Hawks are 2-1 this season against nationally ranked opponents.

What's Next?

Humber will open the 2023 OCAA Postseason on Feb. 18 for a crossover match at the North Campus Gym. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
