2022 Season Preview: Women's Basketball

The Storyline

Humber women's basketball will return to the hardwood for its 41st season, opening the OCAA season on Oct. 25 at Sheridan College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

2021-22 Highlights
  • Humber captured the fifth provincial title under the guidance of head coach Ajay Sharma – finishing the OCAA season with a perfect 7-0 record.
  • Kia Watt's 7.0 assists per game tied Ceejay Nofuente's program record.
  • As a rookie, Sarah Baptie led the conference with a 57.9 field goal percentage.
Double blues

The Hawks are 23-13 (.639) all-time against Sheridan, including 15 straight victories.

At the helm

Ajay Sharma returns to the sidelines for is 11th season as the all-time winningest coach in program history. Sharma has directed the Hawks to a period of unprecedented prosperity in the form of five CCAA tournament appearances – including the first two national championship titles in program history – and five OCAA provincial titles. Sharma owns a 193-30 (.865) career record.

Kern Lewis (10th season) and Kingsley Hudson (9th season) return to the bench this season, joining Aycha Hamaoui-Askarova (8th season), Jeremy Alleyne (5th season), and Aleena Domingo (2nd season).

Humber legend Ceejay Nofuente, the program's all-time leader in points, assists, and steals will join Coach Sharma's staff for the 2022-23 season.

Fresh Faces

Seven players will be donning the navy and gold for the first time this season:

  • Kayah Clarke, Guard, Hamilton – appeared in 71 games for the Windsor Lancers, earning OUA Rookie of the Year honours ins 2017.
  • Jolesha Allen, Shooting Guard, Oshawa – spent two seasons with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, appearing in 38 games.
  • Sidney Crawford, Guard, Etobicoke – appeared in 22 games for. The Laurentian Voyageurs.
  • Marley Bonnick, Shooting Guard, Brampton – appeared in 20 games for the St. Francis Xavier X-Women, earning team MVP honours.
  • Nicole Chateau, Guard, Etobicoke – appeared in 10 games for the Toronto Varsity Blues during the 2021-22 season.
  • Abby Bodden, Shooting Guard, Richmond, B.C. – making postsecondary debut.
  • Immaculate Adarkwa, Power Forward, Mississauga – making postsecondary debut.
New beginnings

Since 2012, the Hawks are 8-2 in the season opener.

Humber women's basketball will return to the North Campus Gym on Nov. 2 for its 2022-23 home opener against the Mohawk Mountaineers. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
