Colts Fall To Top-Seeded Huskies

By: Zach Worden

SCARBOROUGHDeandre Goulbourne had 23 points and 12 rebounds on 77 percent shooting as the Centennial Colts fell to the George Brown Huskies 105-86 on Thursday night in OCAA men's basketball action.

In just his sixth game with the Colts (6-9), Goulbourne has continued to be an impact player on both ends of the floor. He also picked up five steals and blocked three shots in the loss.

Covaun Armstrong also had a solid game for Centennial. The second-year guard had 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists on 63 percent shooting.

Robert Ocampo and Jeremiah Brown led the way for the Huskies, who improved to 13-1 with the win and extended their winning streak to 12.

The duo combined for 37 points and fueled the Huskies' outside attack, hitting six threes on nine attempts while getting to the line for 10 combined attempts — knocking down seven.

George Brown's depth proved invaluable in its league-leading 13th win, as 11 different Huskies registered points in the game.

The Colts were the aggressors early in the opening quarter, scoring the first seven points of the game against the first-place Huskies.

Goulbourne was the driving factor behind Centennial's early lead. He scored 12 points through the first six minutes, hitting all five of his shots from the floor.

Despite the early Centennial lead, George Brown worked its way back into the game and eventually went up on a pair of threes from Ocampo — helping his team to a 24-19 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.

The Huskies kept up their momentum out of the opening quarter break, growing their lead to double digits through the first half of the second.

Both squads found success getting to the free-throw line in the quarter, combining for 16 points at the charity stripe. With both teams in the bonus early, they took advantage down the stretch of the free trips to the line.

George Brown controlled play for the majority of the quarter, but Centennial showed some life in the final minute, scoring the final four points, cutting their deficit to 13 at the half.

Out of the halftime break, the teams traded baskets as the Colts worked to get themselves back into the game. Goulbourne stood out in the early moments with a pair of dunks in transition coming off of steals.

Centennial was able to cut its deficit to single digits a couple of times in the third, but each time the Huskies responded with a basket to keep the Colts at bay.

Robert Nas had a big quarter for George Brown, scoring seven points and playing a big role in the later stages as the Huskies built a 76-59 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

The fourth quarter saw more of the same, as the Colts looked to cut into George Brown's lead but couldn't string together stops on the defensive end after they scored.
