Softball rolls to doubleheader sweep

ETOBICOKE - Humber softball (4-0, 1st OCAA) picked up two more wins in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon against the Sheridan Bruins (0-4, 8th OCAA) and Conestoga (2-2, 5th). Hannah Koziolek remained red-hot at the dish, finishing 5-for-7 on the day with three extra-base hits. In the win over Sheridan, Koziolek tied an OCAA record with seven RBIs.

Game One: Humber 15, Sheridan 0 (4 innings)

The offence was not a worry in game one of the doubleheader with a massive victory against the Sheridan Bruins. The Hawks wasted little time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the first inning with a couple of base hits.

The flood gates opened in the second inning after a string of base hits and a walk left the bases loaded for Hannah Koziolek, who cleared the bases with a three-run triple. Koziolek would later score on a double. Humber would score another on a fielder's choice.

It was deja vu for Humber in the third inning with Christina D'Angelo, Shea Hilpert and Alexis Ferreira on base. Koziolek wasted little time, hitting her second three-run triple of the game.

Cheyenne Sears had a good day in the circle, recording her second career victory. The Cambridge native went four innings while only allowing three hits.

Game Two: Humber 11, Conestoga 6

It was a sloppy game for the Hawks defensively in game two as fatigue from their fourth game in three days began to set in.

The bats continued to stay hot as Jessica MacPherson tied the game with a solo shot in the second inning - her second long ball in as many days. Four batters later, Julie Kostuch crushed her first career home run, swatting a three-run shot to deep right centre field.

The Condors were able to take advantage of a couple of defensive miscues by Humber in the top of the third frame, tying the game at four.

With an RBI single from Michaela Tuck followed by a two-run single off the bat of Breanna Oliver; the Hawks were able to open the floodgates and take a five-run lead in the sixth, and cruise to a victory.

Mikaela Moore recorded her fifth career victory, going five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) with two strikeouts. Meagan Muir worked two innings of relief, picking up three strikeouts.
