Colts Extend Winning Streak to 6

By: Pedro Casellatto

Ottawa, ON - The Centennial Men's Volleyball team defeated the La Cité Coyotes on their home soil in last weekend's second game to make it the sixth win in a row. They showed consistency not only in their defensive system, as the fans are used to, but also in powerful attacking combinations that we haven't seen many times in the season.

The Colts controlled the game for the most part. After a balanced start, the visitors found a good pace and were able to maintain it for the rest of the game. In the first set, the Coyotes came out very aggressive with serves that seemed to surprise the Colts, who found themselves behind on the scoreboard in a few moments. The strategy used to rebalance the game was to match the intensity on the backline. The left-side players, Pedro Casellatto and Cristian Morales, found a good pace and brought back the first set for the Colts, closing it 25-19.

In the second set, the Colts brought back the same intensity, in addition to an organized attacking system. The setter, Michael Matsuto, got creative and gave the Coyotes' blockers a hard time chasing the ball, leaving the attackers with a single block many times. With a small change in the formation for the third set, the middle blocker, Alexandros Tsevas, comes out due to a minor injury, Nikolas Moser takes over the middle of the net, and Pedro Casellatto is moved to the right side. That worked just as well, and the Colts were able to close the set at 25-16 and bring another win home.

The Colts are now with an 11-2 record and will extend their streak at home next Sunday, January 21st, against the Durham Lords. They will also be playing to stay in the fight for first place in the East Division. Make sure to come out to support the Colts as they get ready for important challenges.
