Ylagan leads No. 4 Women's Basketball in season finale

BELLEVILLE – No. 4 Humber women's basketball concluded the 2022 season undefeated, beating the Loyalist Lancers (1-7, 7th West) Saturday afternoon, 85-58.

Senior Nikki Ylagan stepped up big for the Hawks in the season finale, dropping a season-high 37 points – including 11-of-21 (52.4 percent) from 3-point range. Miea Campbell-Johnson recorded her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.

In one of its tightest games this season through three quarters, it was Humber's conditioning that helped the Hawks finish strong. Humber outscored the Lancers by 15 in the final frame to cruise to the 27-point victory.

Humber Highlights
  • The Hawks finished with three of the top-five scorers in the league this season. MCJ finished second at 23.6 PPG, while Kia Watt (Fourth), and Nikki Ylagan (Fifth) finished at 21.8 and 20.2, respectively.
  • MCJ's 23.6 PPG is the second-highest average in program history, finishing shy of Iona Dawes' record of 25.0 from the 1989-90 season. Her average of 17.6 rebounds and 3.4 blocks are new program records, while her 27 blocks tie the record set by Ceejay Nofuente in 2018.
  • For the fourth time in the Coach Sharma era, Humber finished the regular season with a perfect record.
  • Nikki Ylagan's 11 triples were the second-most in program history, two shy of the record set by Ceejay Nofuente in 2017. Ylagan led the conference with 31 3-pointers this season.
  • Rookie Sarah Baptie finishes the season with a 57.9 field-goal percentage – the top mark in the conference. Watt finished second at 57.1 percent.
What's Next?

No. 4 Humber will host either Seneca or Loyalist on Mar. 9 in the first round of the playoffs. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
