Rugby Sevens concludes regular season with 4-1 record

OSHAWA – Humber rugby sevens (4-1, 2nd OCAA) concluded the regular season Saturday with two wins in three matches to wrap-up the regular season.

It was a relatively low-scoring tournament for the Hawks after they opened the season with a 45-point victory over the Sting.

In game one against St. Lawrence (3-2, 3rd OCAA), Essence Palmer-McCarthy led the way, scoring three tries, while Alicia Hayes added two converts. Humber was able to hold off the Surge, winning 19-12.

Humber's biggest challenge of the season came against Durham, losing their first match of the year, 17-12. The Hawks were able to hold the top offence in the conference to a season-low 17 points but were unable to score against their defence. Alicia Hayes scored her first try of the season, while Palmer-McCarthy added another try of her own.

The Hawks rebounded in the final match of the condensed season, shutting out Fleming (2-3, 4th OCAA), 12-0. Senior Daniella Grant scored both tries for the Hawks, while Sarah Bothen added a convert.

What's Next?

The Hawks will head to the OCAA championship tournament hosted by Durham College, Oct. 30 to 31. Day one format will be a two-game round-robin, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the semifinal round on Oct. 31.
