Historic Night for Baseball with Sweep of Lambton

SARNIA – The two-time defending OCAA champions opened the season Friday night with a doubleheader sweep over Lambton at Errol Russel Park. Humber's offence was explosive during the twin bill, combining to score 35 runs in 10 innings of action.

In game one, senior outfielder Dennis Dei Banning hit a solo home run – the fifth of his career. The Toronto native passed Brian MacDonald, becoming Humber's all-time home run leader.

Shaine O'Keefe made his debut for the Hawks after missing the 2019 campaign with arm issues. The hard-throwing righty recorded his first career victory, working four innings allowing two earned runs while striking out five. Northern Oklahoma transfer Justin Raspanti looks to be living up to the pre-season hype, belting a home run and game-high five RBIs in the opener.

Freshman Dalton Brownlee was the story in game two, making his OCAA debut on the bump for the Hawks. The Innisfil native nearly threw a perfect game, walking one Lambton hitter during the game. Brownlee struck out 12 of the 16 hitters he faced, recording the sixth no-hitter in program history.

Third-year infielder Aidan Murphy recorded his third career big fly, tacking on a game-high four RBIs in the game two win.

Humber Highlights
  • Head coach Troy Black earned the first two victories of his career.
  • Humber's five home runs are already the third-most in program history.

  • The Hawks have recorded 31 victories by mercy since 2013.
