2004-05 OCAA MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR - NATHANIEL ALLARD
In just his rookie season, Centennial's Nathaniel
Allard has turned heads on the OCAA badminton scene. At
the provincial championship, Nathaniel went undefeated and captured
the gold medal in men's singles competition. At nationals,
Nathaniel had another strong outing earning himself a silver
medal.
For his efforts this season, he was named OCAA badminton player of
the year and Centennial's male athlete of the year. Other accolades
for Allard include winning the OCAA West regional title, claiming
gold in both invitationals he competed in, and earning the OCAA
fair play award as well as OCAA athlete of the week.
Centennial College athletic director Mary Zettel
remarked, "Committed, disciplined, focused and exceptionally mature
are words that describe Nathaniel. A great role model for his
teammates, he is someone who is humble but confident. His sense of
fair play and respect for the game, opponents and officials is
evident to all who have met or seen him play. At every tournament
and event, I have received unsolicited compliments on his skill,
leadership and sportsmanship from other college coaches,
coordinators and athletic directors. He is simply amazing!"
Centennial's badminton coach Tim Liu commented
that Nathaniel is "disciplined, focused and extremely modest for
all his accomplishments."
