Over the past four years Shane Bascoe has
developed into the premier collegiate men's basketball player in
the nation. During his time he has led the Sheridan Bruins to two
provincial titles, one provincial silver, four regional titles and
a national bronze medal.
Individually, he has been named as a CCAA all-Canadian three times,
has earned OCAA all-star honours three times, and was named a CCAA
championship all-star, OCAA championship all-star and OCAA
championship MVP.
Shane exemplifies what being a student-athlete is all about, as he
has twice earned CCAA academic all-Canadian and OCAA all-academic
awards. This past season (1999-2000), Shane picked up the highest
honours available to a college basketball player, as he was named
the CCAA men's basketball player of the year. He was also named to
the OCAA all-millennium team, becoming the only active player to
earn such honours. Shane's outstanding career with the Bruins is
capped off with a career scoring average of 17.4 points per game
and three Sheridan College athlete of the year awards.
Fred Wannamaker of Sheridan College Athletics had
this to say, "Shane is a nice, honest, sincere young man. He
handles the attention he receives very well and genuinely has a
love for the game of basketball. the college was proud to recently
unveil the Shane Bascoe Award for Academic Excellence. I
congratulate Shane on his terrific academic-athletic career here at
Sheridan College and wish him all the best in his future
