IAN BISHOP

Category: Athlete
Sport: Men's Badminton
Institution: Algonquin College
Inducted: 2009

Ian Bishop finished his career as an Algonquin Thunder men's badminton player as one of the most decorated OCAA badminton athletes. His accomplishments include three consecutive undefeated OCAA men's badminton singles championships dating from the 1969-70 through the 1971-72 season.

While competing for the Thunder, Ian considered the first of his championships the hardest with a huge round robin format with playoffs. He also considered the last of his three championships the most satisfying, as it was earned in front of an Ottawa hometown crowd and with several very closely contested victories.

After graduation, Ian coached Algonquin College badminton players to three further individual OCAA championships.

Ian has continued with the sport of badminton and has been an Ontario "A" player since 1976 and has won numerous Provincial and National titles in Masters competition. He has also been a keen volunteer within the sport and has been Vice President of Badminton Canada and President of the Ontario Badminton Association.

Ian was named a member of the OCAA Badminon All-Millennium team.
